What’s an HQL?

 

The Handgun Qualification License (HQL) is issued by the Maryland State Police and allows for Maryland residents to purchase, rent, and receive handguns

Cost for initial HQL= $50

HQL expires 10 years after issue date

Is NOT a wear & carry permit

Applications MUST be submitted online

The HQL is only for Maryland residents!

What’s a Maryland Wear & Carry Permit?

 

  • The Maryland Wear & Carry Permit is issued by the Maryland State Police and allows for the lawful wear & carry (concealed carry) of a regulated firearm in the state of Maryland.

  • Issued to residents and nonresidents of Maryland

  • Cost for initial Wear & Carry= $75

  • Expires last day of birth month, 2 years after issue

  • Applications MUST be submitted online

  • Maryland Wear & Carry is ONLY recognized in Maryland.

What’s the difference between a Wear & Carry Permit and Concealed Carry Permit?

 

  • Different names for the same thing. Maryland calls their concealed carry permit a Wear & Carry Permit

  • Another example: Pennsylvania calls their concealed carry permit, License to Carry Firearms

What’s a D.C. Concealed Carry License?

 

  • D.C. Concealed Carry License is issued by the Metropolitan Police Department and allows for the lawful concealed carry of a handgun in the District of Columbia.

  • Issued to residents and non-residents of D.C.

  • Cost for initial Concealed Carry License= $75

  • Expires 2 years after issue date

  • Applications MUST be submitted in-person.

What’s a Utah Concealed Firearm Permit?

  • Utah Concealed Firearm Permit is issued by Utah Department of Public Safety allows the lawful concealed carry of a firearm in Utah and 37 additional states.

Does this class guarantee I receive my concealed carry permit?

​

  • You are required to submit the documents you receive at the completion of class to the respective agencies (i.e. Maryland State Police, Metropolitan Police Department, Utah Bureau of Criminal Identification, etc.) for approval.

  • Armed & Trained does NOT approve applications for concealed carry permits, therefore cannot guarantee students will receive their concealed carry permits.

I’ve had some legal issues and not sure if I can legally own a firearm…Who should I contact?

  • Armed & Trained would advise you to contact the police department of your home state/ district (i.e. Maryland State Police, Metropolitan Police Department, Virginia State Police, etc.) to ensure you are receiving accurate information regarding your unique situation.

Does my friend have to come to class with me?

​

  • If you take advantage of the Bring-a-Friend deal, your friend is NOT required to participate in the same class as you, but MUST complete class within 45 days of you

  • (Please let us know at time of registration if your friend will participate in a later class, it helps us to prepare).

Can I take the class prior to my 21st birthday?

​

  • If you are within 45 days of your 21st birthday you are permitted to register and participate in training.

I’ve never shot a gun before. Is that okay?

​

  • All experience (or inexperience) levels are welcome

  • We like to say first-time shooters are the best because they have not developed bad habits yet.

  • Please do not be intimidated by the large class sizes, our instructors will answer all questions and will provide individual attention during shooting qualification.

Do you offer class during the week?

​

  • Currently classes are only offered during weekends; however, we hear your requests!

  • We anticipate offering a weekday class option once monthly, beginning Summer 2023.

  • Please continue to check Armed & Trained social media, website, and/or app for information regarding weekday class offerings/ availability.

Do you offer women’s only classes?

​

  • Currently all classes are co-ed; however, we hear your requests!

  • We anticipate offering women’s only classes beginning Summer 2023

  • Please continue to check Armed & Trained social media, website, and/or app for information regarding women’s only class offerings/availability.

What do I need to bring to class?

​

  • Yourself

  • Phone

  • Pen/paper, if you prefer to take notes

  • Snacks

  • Please do NOT bring weapons to class (i.e. tasers, mace, firearms, knives, etc.)

What should I expect for class?

​

  • Day 1, Classroom (1pm): Fundamentals of becoming a responsible firearm owner.

  • Universal safety rules

  • Pertinent laws

  • Care, cleaning, and maintenance

  • Situational awareness

  • Day 2, Range* (7am):

  • Shooting qualification: demonstrate firearm can be operated in safe manner

  • *$50 Range Fee, separate from cost of training. Includes:

  • Range time/Firearm rental

  • Eye/ Ear Protection (Keep)

  • Range Bag (Keep)

  • Target (Keep)

What if I need to reschedule?

​

  • We understand that life happens. If you need to reschedule, please let us know as soon as possible.

  • Requests to reschedule with 48 hours of your class time will incur $50 reschedule fee.

Can I bring my own firearm to the range?

​

  • Yes you may, however you will still be charged the $50 range fee.

  • Please bring at least 50 rounds of ammunition.
